Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I can't believe it's 2014 already...I hope you had a lovely time celebrating wherever you were. Thank you for following the blog so far if you've been dropping in regularly to see what I've been up to - or if you're just reading for the first time then I hope that you join me for my adventures this coming year :) I did write that I'd share some of my Christmas presents, so here's my delivery as promised!

Bonne année ! Je ne peux pas croire que c'est 2014 déjà...j'espère que vous avez passé une très bonne vacance en fêtant chez soi. Merci pour avoir suivi mon blog jusqu'à maintenant, ou si c'est la première fois j'espère que vous me joignez pour mes aventures cette année. J'ai écrit que je vais partager ce que j'ai reçu comme cadeaux de Noël, donc, voilà - je tiens ma promesse !

Here's the haul!

I was so lucky to get some cute mittens from my sister which are clever enough to contain special fibres so you can use your iPhone, and some notecards from my Grandma. From a friend, I got a tickets to see 'The Woman in Black'. With another friend, we managed to snap up £5.00 tickets to see 'Matilda the Musical' - Christmas really is the most magical time to head to London's West End and see a show! From my parents I got a shirt from Zara, and a drawing of where I live in Paris!

I also got a macaron making kit, a knitted jumper from my friend and I bought myself 'Brideshead Revisited' by Evelyn Waugh with some Christmas money. 

I hope you got some lovely gifts too!

L'Écriture est un voyage

Today I got a lovely card in the post from a friend back at home, which sparked the idea for this post. I just love getting mail - reading it, sending it, cards & letter paper...I think I've already mentioned that the papeterie department in any shop is my favourite place to see! This is a motto I saw on the window of a papeterie shop: "Writing is a journey" - & it's never more true than when your words go on an actual journey, tucked into an envelope & send through the post!

Aujourd'hui, j'ai reçu une lettre dans la poste d'une amie en Angleterre, qui m'a motivé d'écrire ce poste. J'adore recevoir du courrier - de le lire, de l'envoyer, j'adore la papier à lettres et la papeterie. J'ai vu ce slogan dans la vitrine d'un magasin, et ce n'est jamais plus vrai que quand les mots qu'on a écrit font leur propre voyage dans un enveloppe, envoyé dans le courrier !

I'm told that in France it's not very common to send letters, but if I could single-handedly change that tradition, I would! 

On m'a dit qu'en France on n'envoie pas très fréquemment les cartes, mais si je pourrais changer moi-même cette tradition, j'aimerais beaucoup de la changer !

My Mum got me some cute luggage tags which are great for present wrapping or for popping inside a card as a little surprise. They're also giving out free stickers inside the catalogue of Le Bon Marche - they're so cute!

(Il y a des autocollants gratuits super mignons dans la nouvelle catalogue chez Le Bon Marché !)

Monday Catch-Up

I'm currently waiting for my friend to pop some photos up online of our Saturday night, where we went out to a bar called "L'International" for a free gig, feat. Baston. In the meantime, here's a scoop of photos that hadn't quite yet managed to find their way onto the blog.

 My sister sent me a photo of some Hummingbird brownie she'd made, prompting me to give baking in my tiny little oven a go. The only problem was that I had no scales, & had to guess all the quantities. They turned out pretty well, considering, even if I do say it myself!

On Wednesday, I went with some girls to see "Gravity" at the cinema in 3D. I loved it, even if the plot was a little predictable. It was one of the most stressful things I've seen recently, because the whole plot axes on tension & the fear of what will go wrong next up in space. The whole idea terrifies & fascinates me! It was very cathartic, & I was buzzing with pent up adrenalin all the way home. We managed to catch some more of the Christmas market before the movie, but we didn't buy anything.
